S&N Products
Be warned - if you choose to order products from this company and use their installation service - the process can drag on forever. From when I started calling to try to schedule an appointment for measuring to when S&N finally called me back to take my order - it was a two week process. And from when I ordered to when I received all the items in my order (16 shades/blinds total) - it was an additional four weeks. For the prices I paid for these shades (not Hunter Douglas, but certainly not Home Depot prices), I expect far better service than what I received.

in home installation services and customer service
I scheduled an in home measuring appt. It took 3 weeks for the independent contractor to call me back. Thought we were all set for a Sat. when she called to change my morning appt. to the afternoon to accomodate anothwer client. I agreed. 1 hour before my appt. she called wanting directions from where she was at her prior appt. to my home- a completely differentpart of the city. I inquired as to why she had not mapquested the directions. She told me it wasn't necessary b/c she had a GPS system. I calll Smith and they said they would get her to my place. I waited aqll afternoon, she never showed nor called. I have called the co. every other day for the paqst month to have this rectified to no avail and I'm completely frustrated.

Awful Service
I bought a smithandnoble.com custom valance and custom shade for my new baby girl's nursery. Here is my experience: 1) Actual fabric was by about 2 shades of ivory darker than the free fabric swatch that I had initially received. 2) The shade had a black dot about 3 mm by 3 mm that repeated every 12 inches or so. I'm presuming the fabric was not first quality but rather a cheap bootleg version that they use for customers AFTER they trick them into giving their credit card info. 3) The valance is their Dakota valance, which has a pleat in the center. Well, my baby's valance does NOT have a pleat in the center, but instead, it's off center. The valance is 48 inches wide. From the center to each side of the board, the valance is 22.8 inches to the right and 25.2 inches to the left. 4) Also, don't trust their fancy designer system that automatically "fills" in the custom window treatment pic with your desired fabric. It looks nothing like it. 5) The shade that I bought for my little girl is supposed to fit inside my window. I entered inside window measurements of 44 3/4 inch width and 56 1/2 inch length. The shade that I received was 46 3/4 inches wide and 54 1/2 inches long. 5) The shade makes a loud cracking sound every time I try to raise it. It's so loud that my daughter once woke up and started crying. I have been calling Smith + Noble for the past month and a half. Their excuse for the valance is that it's custom made and it's NORMAL for custom products to not have pleats at the exact center because it's made by human beings. They refused to fix the valance, but offered to remake my shade but because it's custom made, I still need to give them another 50% of the purchase price. Can you imagine the mere thought of that suggestion?! I was so frustrated. We tore the valance off the board and I got my mother-in-law to reposition the pleat and my husband stapled it back on. We also had to tear out the shade because it wouldn't fit into the window. My husband ended up using his saw to cut a board to the proper length and now we just got a nonfunctional shade that sits on the window without being motorized. I was telling this to some of the mothers at my son's schools and apparently, some of them had quite a few nasty stories to share about smithandnoble.com I just wish more people would speak out about their experiences, regardless if positive or negative.

Beware of Smith and Noble
I've had a similar experience and I will never ever shop with Smith+Noble again. First, they measure it wrong. The guy that came in, I swear, he reeked of alcohol, so I should've figured he wasn't going to measure right. Then, when the shades arrived, they were a lot lighter than the fabric sample. The fabric sample was a light yellow and the shades were a light vanilla, almost bordering on a light cream. They won't take these pathetic shades back even though they measured wrong and the fabric is different. I am very disappointed. Even Walmart treats their customers better than Smith+Noble.

Horrible Quality -- Even Worse Customer Service
I rarely take the time to write reviews, but my experience with this company has been so bad that I feel others should be warned. I ordered approximately $2,000 worth of tri-cell fabric blinds from Smith & Noble last July for a new house that I recently purchased. The quality is terrible with roughly 50% of the blinds being longer (by about an inch) on one side than the other. I have had repeated problems with one blind not being able to be mounted properly and the company has sent me two completely different sets of mounting brackets and neither works. I now have multiple holes drilled in the window frame to show for it that will need to be patched and repainted. I have repeatedly called, faxed and e-mailed detailed information, photos and drawings about the problems with no refund or resolution after 7 months. Each time I call, I have to start all over again explaining what the problems are and trying to get a resolution because they say they "have no record of the problem" and I can never get the same person on the phone twice. This, after I have called every month for 7 months! I send the same information by fax and e-mail each time and NEVER GET A CALL BACK even though I have confirmations that they are receiving the information. While the people on the phone are always polite and curteous, there is never any follow-through or resolution. At this point, I am simply giving up and am out my $2,000. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!
